Wild Honey with the Forest People

Follow a honey hunter into the Dambana forest. January to May.

In the dry months the Wanniyala-Aetto still take honey from the hollows of forest trees, with smoke and a bark rope and no protective gear. You walk in with them and watch from a respectful distance.

The honey is dark and smoky and nothing like the jar at home. It is what glazes the pork chop in our restaurant.
